BukSU Gains National Accreditation as Cooperative Training Provider

With this new certification, BukSU will deliver specialized training sessions on essential areas such as financial management, leadership, and sustainable practices. These competencies are designed to transform cooperatives into more productive, resilient, and economically viable organizations.

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) recently achieved national accreditation from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) as a certified Training Provider for Cooperatives in the Philippines. This significant achievement reflects BukSU’s dedication to empowering marginalized communities and supporting rural development through its College of Business (COB) and its extension program, Cooperativism Among Provincial Agrarian Reform Associations and Cooperatives (CAPARAC): A Capability-Building Program. Awarded on October 16, 2024, in Quezon City, this certification is valid from October 14, 2024, to October 13, 2029, establishing BukSU as a leader in cooperative training.

The COB pursued CDA accreditation to equip cooperatives, especially those formed by Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Associations and Agriculture Cooperatives, with essential skills and knowledge. The COB’s commitment aligns with BukSU’s mission to enhance local economies and uplift rural communities by recognizing cooperatives as vital to inclusive economic growth and sustainable livelihoods. As a CDA-certified training provider, BukSU aims to significantly increase its impact on these communities, empowering cooperatives to drive social and economic progress.

Empowering communities through targeted training

With this new certification, BukSU will deliver specialized training sessions on essential areas such as financial management, leadership, and sustainable practices. These competencies are designed to transform cooperatives into more productive, resilient, and economically viable organizations. BukSU’s training efforts will align with key Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDGs 1 No Poverty, 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, 10 Reduced Inequalities, 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, and 17 Partnerships for the Goals, focusing on poverty reduction, economic advancement, and inclusive growth.

Leadership and dedication behind the accreditation

The attainment of this CDA certification reflects the dedication of several key individuals. University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol emphasized BukSU’s commitment to becoming a CDA-certified training provider, recognizing this certification’s essential role in community empowerment. Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela supported this vision by endorsing a Cooperative Management course for the Business Administration-Financial Management program. Dean of the COB Dr. Nestor Y. Cipriano, CPA, and Business Administration Program Head Dr. Cecile T. Janamjam provided crucial guidance in advancing the College’s cooperative initiatives. The leadership of Mr. Jake L. Peras, Project Leader of the CAPARAC program, has also been instrumental in the program’s success. Additionally, the College of Business faculty, who completed the Training of Trainers program from May 16-18, 2024, are committed to enhancing cooperative capabilities across the Philippines.

Avenues for growth and partnership
This CDA certification broadens BukSU’s community impact and opens doors to new partnerships and funding opportunities. It lays the groundwork for establishing a cooperative training institute at BukSU, which has the potential to generate income and further solidify the university’s role as a community-engaged institution. This initiative reinforces BukSU’s commitment to supporting the cooperative movement in the Philippines, contributing to sustainable development and economic resilience in rural communities.

Through its dedication to cooperative education and empowerment, BukSU is creating pathways for a stronger, more inclusive economy, fostering local growth, and enhancing the social fabric of rural areas.
