BukSU Bike Enthusiasts Support Sustainability with “Bike Day”

Bike enthusiasts of Bukidnon State University (BukSU) gathered to take part in the university’s “Make a Difference for Sustainability” activity on October 25, 2023, where they demonstrated their commitment to reducing carbon footprints and embracing a more sustainable future.

15 bikers, coming from different units of the university, participated in the “Bike Day—Promoting Biking for a Sustainable Future” initiative, where their carbon footprints were computed as they pedaled from their residence to the main campus.

The Information Desk in charge, Mr. Aldren G. Daga-ang, tracked his ride and calculated 0.0345 kilograms of carbon dioxide emitted on the trip from his residence at Barangay 10 to the main campus.

“I participated in the activity as my personal contribution to the fight against climate change. Biking may appear to be a humble gesture, but it has a positive impact on preserving our environment for future generations,” said Daga-ang.

From the main campus to the annex campus, the bikers proceeded to Barangay Sumpong before reconvening at the main campus.

Upon their return, the bikers were given certificates by University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol in recognition of their participation and dedication to environmental sustainability.

“Your individual efforts, big or small, can collectively make a significant impact in reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainability. Together, we can achieve a greener, more sustainable future for our beloved university and the community at large,” said Dr. Mirasol.

In a move aimed at bolstering BukSU’s commitment to becoming a “Green University,” Dr. Mirasol initiated the installation of a bicycle parking rack at Gate 3, underscoring the university’s dedication to fostering an environment where sustainable transportation is both accessible and encouraged.
