MALAYBALAY CITY (OP-IPS) Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez’ retired as university President, marking his 45 years of service which was celebrated by the officials through a tribute program entitled “Celebrating the Legacy of Excellience” held at the University Mini Theater on November 3, 2022.
Dr. Cabañelez has been serving in the government for 45 years starting from being a classroom teacher, principal, college dean, vice-president, until he has been appointed as BukSU President on January 8, 2015 and was reappointed for second term on January 13, 2019. His retirement took effect on October 21, 2022.
As part of the program, CHED Commissioner Jo Mark M. Libre, Chairman of the BukSU Board of Regents, the Officer-In-Charge President Atty. Ryan L. Estevez, the three vice presidents, Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela (VPAA), Dr. Joy M. Mirasol (VPREI), Mr. Dante S. Victoria, Jr. (VPAPD), the eight College Deans and nine Unit Directors delivered their heartfelt message during the tribute program at the university mini theater.
Mr. Dante S. Victoria, Jr., Vice-President for Administration, Planning, and Development said that working with Dr. Cabañelez has been the greatest honor.
“You elevate the workspace and the whole work experience. Your kindness, motivation and support are just the few characteristics that make you a phenomenal leader and mentor that you are today,” he said in his message to Dr. Cabañelez during the tribute program held at the university mini theater.
Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, also cited Dr. Cabañelez kind of leadership which prioritizes academic and professional growth.
She said that Sir Oscar has fostered a people culture and has showed with humility his vulnerability.
“He showed us that leaders are human beings too. They get sick, they suffer, they get hurt. But instead of taking this as a sign of weakness, Sir Oscar shows us how to embrace a crisis with kindness and composure, (and) how to live and leave public service with grit and grace. All this and more define the leadership of Sir Oscar Cabañelez,” she said.
Dr. Joy M. Mirasol also said that the OVPREI has pushed its limits to its best version under sir Oscar’s leadership.
“With Sir Oscars transformative leadership, he always believes that we will and we can do better. We will always be grateful for your excellence service. Your excellience leadership will become the legacy you will forever imprint on to Bukidnon State University,” she said.
Atty. Ryan L. Estevez, Officer-in-Charge President, also acknowledged Dr. Oscar’s service throughout the years. He said it is necessary for every institution to have the right person to lead it to greater heights.
“BukSU is fortunate that you have steered this university to the progressive state that we all know today,” he added.
The BukSU Dance Troupe, BukSU Chorale, and Employee Brass Band also performed for the intermission number during the program.
The said event was attended by BukSU top officials including the family and relatives of Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez.
