Seven academic programs of Bukidnon State University (BukSU) undergo a three-day virtual evaluation from July 9 to 11, 2024, to secure Level IV accreditation from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc.
The programs under evaluation are Bachelor of Public Administration, Bachelor of Science in Community Development, Bachelor of Science in Development Communication, Bachelor of Science in Food Technology, Bachelor of Science in Electronics Technology, Bachelor of Science in Automotive Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management.
“On behalf of BukSU, I would like to thank the esteemed accreditors for this online Level IV visit for their utmost commitment to helping BukSU with the continuous development of our programs through your insights and recommendations,” SMART BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol remarked during the opening program.
The accreditors, comprising academicians from various state universities, will evaluate the seven programs in five areas: scope and impact of research, traces of luminary graduates, impact and contribution of community service, evidence of international linkages and consortia, and the well-developed planning process through quality assurance.
The programs will be rated from 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent). Each area is expected to generate a mean score of not lower than 4, with an overall program grand mean expected to be 4.5.
“To the hard-working faculty and staff of these programs and our Quality Assurance Office workforce, remember that you demonstrate dedication to providing the highest-quality education and services by participating in this evaluation process. The feedback we will receive during this visit will be instrumental in identifying areas for further development and ensuring we continuously strive for excellence. I am incredibly proud of everybody’s tireless efforts and preparedness for this crucial moment. Your dedication and commitment to quality are truly commendable,” said Mirasol.
BukSU’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela, challenged the program chairpersons and faculty members to continue their commitment to excellence, which has defined Bukidnon State University for over a hundred years and is now known as SMART Bukidnon State University.
“Our university recognizes AACCUP as a vital mechanism to ensure quality-assured academic programs that transcend compliance with minimum requirements and meet the highest standards that would make them on par with excellent programs offered by world-ranked universities,” Abejuela said.
“In our pursuit of program excellence, we are not just competing with external standards; we are competing with our own potential. Let us not lose sight of the fact that our true competition is mediocrity and complacency. When we collaborate, support, and uplift each other, we unlock our collective potential, and we become a formidable force for positive change,” she said.
“So, as we move forward, let us continue to embrace coopetition (cooperation and competition). Let us challenge each other to be better, to innovate, and to strive for excellence, not as individuals but as a united university. Together, we will not only meet but exceed the highest standards of quality in education. Our success in this accreditation exercise will be a manifestation of the power of collaboration and the strength of our university community. With coopetition in our hearts, we will achieve the SMART University that we envision BukSU to be,” Abejuela added.
AACCUP, Inc. accredits curricular programs, particularly those of state universities and colleges. It aims to provide program and institutional accreditation services to higher education institutions through competent assessment anchored on national and international standards, cultivating a culture of quality assurance.
