Empowering Educational Leaders: PowerED Project Takes Flight in BukSU Annex Campus, Malaybalay City

Eager participants from Malaybalay City’s ten districts, led by Bukidnon State University's College of Education Graduate Program, launched the PowerED project on October 18, 2023, marking the beginning of a three-year initiative that enhanced leadership and management skills in education.

In a groundbreaking collaboration, the Department of Education (DepEd) Malaybalay City Division, encompassing 10 School Districts, and Bukidnon State University’s (BukSU) College of Education Graduate Program have joined forces for the high-reaching PowerED project. Aptly dubbed “PowerED: Upskilling School Heads’ Competencies for Exemplary Educational Leadership,” this three-year initiative aims to provide a comprehensive training program for DepEd school heads and supervisors, strategically designed to elevate their leadership and management skills.

The program boasts specific objectives, delving into crucial topics such as visionary leadership, data-informed instructional practices, educational research, and technology integration. It places a strong emphasis on fostering inclusive leadership, ethical considerations, and future-ready skills. The goal is to equip participants with the tools needed to champion equity and resilience and establish effective community partnerships within their respective districts.

Dr. Lorenzo O. Capacio, Chief of the School Governance Operation Division at DepEd Malaybalay Division, underscored the importance of the PowerED project, emphasizing its role in delivering targeted training sessions to school heads and administrators.

Attended by ninety-three (93) school heads and administrators from the 10 districts, the Project officially took off on October 18, 2023. Dr. Lorenzo O. Capacio, Chief of the School Governance Operation Division at DepEd Malaybalay Division, spearheaded the event. Dr. Capacio highlighted the critical need for educational leaders capable of navigating the complexities of the evolving education landscape and shaping a future-ready and inclusive learning environment. BukSU, with its pool of experts, is a pivotal partner in turning this vision into reality by providing specialized training. The collaboration between DepEd and BukSU is mutually beneficial, fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge.

Faculty and student extensionists played crucial roles as committee members, ensuring the smooth implementation of the activity.

The PowerED Project falls under the Continuing Professional Development through Extension Services (CPDES) program. Aligned with the extension thrust for functional and relevant projects, linkages, and services, particularly in the field of education, it underscores the importance of continuous education and capacity-building. As PowerED unfolds, it promises to be a beacon of transformative leadership, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of education in Malaybalay City and beyond. (Shaunell Mary J. Sayson and Dr. Riches L. Tortola, COE Faculty Extensionists)
