BukSU Satellite Campuses undergo Gender Sensitivity Training

MALAYBALAY CITY – Fifteen (15) Satellite Campuses of Bukidnon State University recently underwent a (3) three-day training/workshop on Gender and Development (GAD) last August 29-31, 2022.

The training was entitled “Gender Sensitivity Training” which was held in Apple Tree Resort, Opol, Misamis Oriental.

It was participated by the Campus In-charge and GAD Coordinators of Alubijid, Baungon, Cabanglasan, Impasug-ong, Damulog, Kadingilan, Kalilangan, Kitaotao, Malitbog, Medina, Libona, Quezon, San Fernando, Talisayan and Talakag Campus.

The training, which was spearheaded by the Office of the Director for Satellite Campuses represented by Ms. Shella Amor C. Monsanto, GAD Coordinator of the Satellite Campuses in coordination with the Gender and Development Resource Center Dr. Marichu B. Montecillo, UGRC Director.

In accordance with Republic Act No. 9710, sometimes known as the Magna Carta of Women, the program was aimed to mainstream gender issues by including them into the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of policies and programs.

Ms. Nathalie T. Igot, SVEP, CHED10 GAD Focal Person, and PCW NGRP Certified.

The training/workshop focused on the distinction between sex and gender; gender concepts, issues, and perspectives, including those during the COVID 19 pandemic; institutions that affect gender roles and socialization; the division of labor according to gender; manifestations of gender bias; and gender and power.

As expressed during the leveling of expectations that at the end of the training participants will be able to surface the expectation from the beginning and formulate ground rules for the workshop.

Sharing and displaying the members’ pertinent experiences was a fruitful exercise. Everyone was able to develop trust and sensitivity towards working harmoniously within the group, family, workplace and community.

Lastly, the participant was able to identify gaps in the implementation of gender and development initiatives on their individual campuses. Aside from these delightful social events, there were also contests for Mr. and Miss Head Turner of the Night, Best in Bohemian, Best in Yell, and Pinoy-Henyo Winners, where contestants competed for awards.
