BukSU College of Law receives the Justitia Championship Cup

MALAYBALAY CITY – As the reigning champion of the 6th Justitia Moot Court Competition, Bukidnon State University College of Law debate mooters receive the Justitia Cup from the Teehankee Center for the Rule of Law during the turn-over ceremony last September 16, 2022 held at the university mini theatre.

“As one of the coaches and advisers of the team, I am very proud of this achievement of our mooters. We know that our mooters put in a lot of hours in this competition…hours away from their studies. But of course, in exchange for that, is the learning that they got outside the four corners of the classroom,” said Judge Ma. Theresa Aban Camannong during her opening remarks.

Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, also expressed her commendation to the debate and moot society for being the overall champion during the 2021 Justitia Moot Court Competition.

“BukSU takes pride in your achievement for emerging on top of the seven law schools and ten competing teams. Truly, you epitomize BukSU’s trademark of excellence, “she said.

She also said that the Justitia Cup turn-over ceremony is a testimony of the College of Law’s zeal for quality legal education and its aim to produce highly-competent juris doctor graduates.

The turn-over was led by the Teehankee Center for the Rule of Law Executive Director, Atty. Joseph Migriño, who also announced that the 7th Justitia Moot Court Competition will be held tentatively in the third week of January 2023.

In her acceptance speech, Atty. Sherrymae O. Velos-Decang, College of Law Dean, said that the Justitia Cup is the symbol of the great determination, teamwork, and perseverance of our mooters and members of our moot team.

Atty. Ophelia Pilar Rubio-Zamora, Supervising Lawyer for the BukSU College of Law Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) also commended the debate mooters’ achievement during her closing remarks. “I am so proud of what the students have become. I am proud of your accomplishments. I hope that the university will continue to support the activities of the debate and moot society,” she said. (Diana Rose B. Lagoy/OP-IPS)
