MALAYBALAY CITY (IPS) Debaters from the Bukidnon State University College of Law won as champion of the 2019 Conflicts of Law debate of the Association of Law Students of the Philippines (ALSP) Northern Mindanao.
BukSU, represented by selected law students from 1st year to 4th year, won the debate competition and the Best Speaker Award in the person of James M. Violon, 2nd year student. The two other members of the BukSU debate team were Ms. Sheen Mariel Dagawasan and Ms. Glyzl Jee Latoza.
The championship motion: An ordinance banning the use of plastic bags is unconstitutional.
Xavier University took the affirmative stand while BukSU took the negative stance.
BukSU students also joined the 2019 Conflicts of Law Friendship Games held in Xavier University Campus-Ateneo de Cagayan on February 2 to 3, 2019.
Conflicts of Law is the annual debate and sports competitions. The theme for this year’s event was “Go Beyond” – a testament of the law schools’ passion for disciplined excellence and a constant desire to be and do better.
BukSU won as 2nd over-all winner, next to Xavier University. The other team in the competition came from Liceo de Cagayan College of Law.
BukSU also won 1st place in the Badminton Men’s Division and 2nd place for Women’s Division.
The university placed in other events, as follows: Basketball Men’s Division- 3rd Place, Basketball Women’s Division- 2nd Place, Volleyball Men’s Division- 2nd Place, Volleyball Women’s Division- 3rd Place, Chess Men’s Division- 2nd Place, and Chess Women’s Division- 2nd Place.
