The Information Technology Department offers 2 programs – Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor of Science in Entertainment and Multimedia Computing major in Digital Animation Technology. It serves as an academic breeding ground for students taking up ICT courses within its programs and ICT subjects offered in other programs within the University. Its primary function is to design a CHED-compliant curriculum, deliver high quality instruction, and foster growth and innovation to local community extension, research and international partnerships. It also participates in the University’s vision of a SMART BukSU by introducing and adapting best practices in teaching and learning using effective yet sustainable solutions.

History

The BSIT program was first introduced at Bukidnon State University in 1995 under the leadership of its inaugural chair, Mr. Dante S. Victoria Jr. The program’s inaugural batch of graduates emerged in 1999, comprising 41 students. Initially administered by the College of Business Administration, Accountancy, and Information Technology for 16 years, it achieved Level 1 accreditation from AACCUP in 2008. Over the years, the program underwent multiple curriculum revisions to align with CHED standards and to address the evolving demands of the ICT industry.

In 2011, the program was transferred to the College of Arts and Sciences, a move that culminated in its attainment of Level 3 AACCUP accreditation in 2018. Additionally, in 2018, the BSEMC-DAT program was launched, producing its first cohort of 22 graduates in 2022. With the establishment of the College of Technologies in 2020, the BSIT and BSEMC-DAT programs now cater to a combined student body of 615 individuals as of the second semester of SY 2023-2024.
