The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) welcomed the 2023 batch of recent faculty additions to Bukidnon State University at the “TOBE INSPIRE: A Guide to Outcomes-based Education for Recent Faculty Additions” event held on October 25, 2023.
This gathering aimed to provide a comprehensive guide to Outcomes-based Education (OBE) for the newly hired faculty, fostering a strong foundation for educational excellence and innovation.
In his opening remarks, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela emphasized the importance of OBE in shaping the future of education. She expressed her delight in having the new faculty members join the institution and shared her anticipation of their contributions to the educational community.
Following the opening remarks, the event delved into a series of informative sessions to equip the faculty members with a comprehensive understanding of OBE principles and practices.
Dr. Cecille Marie T. Improgo, CITL Director, enlightened the audience on “Understanding the Foundations of Outcomes-based Education.” Her presentation highlighted the key concepts, objectives, and strategies behind OBE, providing valuable insights into its integration into the curriculum.
Dr. Melluh Jane S. Tiu then discussed the critical topic of “Designing Syllabi that Drive Student Success.” Dr. Tiu’s presentation offered a practical approach to creating syllabi that align with OBE principles, emphasizing the role of clear learning outcomes in guiding students to success.
Dr. Maricel R. Inovejas shared her expertise on “Crafting Engaging OBE Instructional Materials.”Her session provided educators with valuable strategies for creating engaging and interactive learning materials, ensuring that the teaching process aligns with the OBE framework.
In an era where technology plays a significant role in education, Mr. John Bryan Acaso then guided the faculty members on “Navigating the University’s Learning Management System like a Pro.” His session aimed to empower educators with the tools and knowledge to leverage digital platforms for effective OBE implementation.
In the afternoon workshop, participants were engaged in creating their Individualized Monitoring (IM) Workplans, tailored to the specific needs and goals of their respective courses. This exercise allowed them to apply the knowledge they had gained earlier in the day and set clear objectives for their OBE journey. Each participant presented their outputs and welcomed suggestions from the CITL team.
The day concluded with an atmosphere of inspiration and motivation. The participants left the event with a renewed commitment to make their teaching truly outcomes-based.
“TOBE INSPIRE” not only welcomed new faculty members but also ignited a shared passion for excellence in education, grounded in the principles of Outcomes-based Education. The event is a testament to the institution’s commitment to nurturing a culture of learning and continuous improvement in its academic community.
