OVPREI cascades 2024 targets

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations (OVPREI), led by Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, cascaded the office’s 2024 targets on February 16, 2024, at the Research Building.

Comprising the OVPREI are the university’s Research Unit (RU), Extension Unit (EU), Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Unit (IPPTTU), and University Gender and Development Resources Center (UGRC).

“It takes the whole BukSU community to build a smart university. You are essential to attaining the smart university ecosystem, and we are here not only to cascade the targets but to engage in a meaningful dialogue with you. We talk, we listen, and we understand,” Barroso said in her opening message.

The cascading activity kicked off with University Planning Director Dr. Helen P. Garcia presenting the new State University and College’s (SUC) Leveling guideline to inform the units’ heads about the updated parameters and point system.

RU Director Ms. Joan M. Recente then outlined the Research Unit targets, providing indicators for evaluation and strategies to achieve the identified goals. The focus of research targets included meeting required research citation numbers, utilization of research studies, and outputs from research.

EU Director Dr. Jiemalyn B. Paulican presented the Extension Unit targets, emphasizing collaboration and partnerships with stakeholders, expanded community engagement, and the use of research and innovation for extension services.

IPTTU Director, Dr. Ma. Teresa Salumintao discussed targets for patents, copyrights, and the utilization of innovations and technology.

Meanwhile, Dr. Marichu B. Montecillo, presenting UGRC targets, identified goals based on the number of gender-sensitive extension projects and a capability development plan for project implementers.

Throughout the cascading, insights, comments, and discussions were encouraged, allowing for the revision of target numbers without compromising the goal of meeting standards set by statutory institutions, taking into account the General Appropriations Act (GAA) and SUC Leveling.
