Indigenous Worldviews: Philippine Scholars Unveil In-Depth Studies on Indigenous Women’s Narratives and Cultural Practices

Ivy Grace Linggay from Bukidnon State University presented her work titled "Igkanangen ku tu Kanank nu Banwa," offering a deeper understanding of indigenous narratives and cultural practices.

Scholars from the University of the Philippines Mindanao and Bukidnon State University have unveiled compelling research shedding light on the narratives, cultural beliefs, and socio-economic challenges faced by indigenous women in the Philippines during the second day of the WSAP Annual International Conference held on November 22-24, 2023 in Bukidnon State University.

Galene Bascon, Anna Marie Bernido, Carlos Miguel Cariรฑo, and Francine Kwin Rona Pegaro from the University of the Philippines Mindanao presented their insightful study titled “Longossa: Cultural Beliefs and Herbal Medicines of the Obo Manobo Women on Menstruation.” Their research delves into the intricate cultural beliefs surrounding menstruation among the Obo Manobo women, exploring traditional herbal remedies and the cultural significance attributed to this natural cycle.

Francheska Ezzrha G. Yosores, also from the University of the Philippines Mindanao, presented her research titled “Struggle for Survival: Narratives and Lived-Experiences of the Socio-Economic Struggles of the Bagobo Klata Women in Barangay Los Amigos, Davao City.” Her study provides a poignant exploration of the socio-economic challenges faced by the Bagobo Klata women, offering a glimpse into their lived experiences and the resilience they display amidst adversity.

Additionally, Ivy Grace Linggay from Bukidnon State University presented her work titled “Igkanangen ku tu Kanank nu Banwa,” offering a deeper understanding of indigenous narratives and cultural practices. Her research sheds light on the cultural heritage and traditions of the local community, focusing on the preservation and appreciation of indigenous knowledge.
