The National Resilience Council bestowed Bukidnon State University (BukSU) President, Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, with the Philippine Resilience Award for Women in recognition of her outstanding leadership and dedication to addressing climate and disaster challenges in the Philippines.
Dr. Mirasol was among the select group of ten distinguished awardees recognized for their exceptional contributions to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation and mitigation in the country during the awarding ceremony held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on October 12, 2023.
The Philippine Resilience Award for Women honors the role that women leaders play in safeguarding their communities against the adverse effects of climate change and natural disasters. The award acknowledges their efforts and contributions to resilience building.
Mirasol impressed the selection panel with her contributions to the Mindanao Protected Area Management Board during her tenure as BukSU’s Vice President for Research, Extension, and International Affairs. Her efforts have made a profound impact on the resilience of communities across Northern Mindanao, particularly within the protected areas.
Mirasol stands alongside women from all corners of the Philippines who were nominated and have demonstrated evidence-informed, science- and technology-based local leadership and innovative solutions.
She expressed her words of gratitude to the BukSU community.
“Being awarded the Philippine Resiliency Award for Women is a humbling acknowledgment of the extraordinary resilience and perseverance of women, and I am profoundly honored to contribute to our resilient community in our shared journey toward disaster mitigation, climate adaptation, and nurturing a sustainable environment. This is all through God’s favor.”
The Philippine Resilience Awards is a pioneering program that celebrates and promotes the exceptional resilience-building efforts of local leaders across the country. Its primary objective is to recognize and honor champions of resilience in various sectors and communities. (Information Unit)
