Pamahaw Ta BukSU charity benefits 71 IP children in Barangay Can-ayan

MALAYBALAY CITY—Seventy-one children from the indigenous community of Sitio Candi-isan in Barangay Can-ayan received lunchboxes, tumblers, and packed meals during the community outreach program of Bukidnon State University’s Extension Unit on October 13, 2023.

The outreach program exemplified the EU’s commitment to make a significant positive impact not only within the university but throughout the surrounding communities.

On October 12, the EU organized a “Pamahaw ta BukSU” event to raise funds for the outreach program.

“We chose Barangay Can-ayan, particularly Sitio Candi-isan’s indigenous children because the barangay has long been our partner with various programs of the university. We still have future projects at the sitio. As a celebration of Indigenous People’s Month, we have chosen indigenous children as beneficiaries,” said EU Director Dr. Jiemalyn B. Paulican.

Among the beneficiaries were Grade 6 students Lorenz L. Bituin and Ryn Jimenez, who expressed their joy and gratitude for the opportunity to participate in such a meaningful activity. For these young recipients, it was a first-time experience, and they were elated to be part of it.

Can-ayan Punong Barangay Rommel S. Seblian, extended his heartfelt thanks to BukSU for sharing their blessings with the Indigenous children of the community. Their generosity left a lasting impact on the recipients and their families, as highlighted by the gratitude expressed by Ms. Nilda Miana, a parent of one of the Indigenous children.

“Salamat kaayo sainyong gihatag diri sa amoa nga makatabang gyud sa among mga anak (Thank you so much for giving us things that could really help our children),” said Miana.

The success of the program was made possible through the leadership of Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations and Dr. Jiemalyn B. Paulican, Extension Director, and the teamwork of Extension Coordinators from various colleges, including Dr. Bernadette S. Binayao (College of Education), Mr. Jake L. Peras (College of Business), Dr. Christine B. Cainday (College of Nursing), Dr. Beverly S. Taga (College of Arts and Sciences), Ms. Jessabell Q. Cabada (College of Technologies), Ms. Jesseca C. Sanjorjo (College of Public Administration and Governance), Ms. Jan Isobel C. Hidalgo (Head, ECE Management Staff), and Ms. Mariel Charisse O. Beltran (Extension Unit Secretary). (Information Unit)
