NorMinCoHRD names contest winners during 6th Regional Health Research Conference

NorMinCoHRD presents certificates and cash prizes to the winners of the various competitions during the 6th Regional Health Research Conference, held at the mini theater of Bukidnon State University.

The 6th Regional Health Research Conference culminated on October 12, 2023, as the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research Development (NorMinCoHRD) recognized the winners of various competitions.

This three-day event, held at Bukidnon State University, showcased a diverse range of competitions aimed at advancing sustainable health research developments.

The competitions encompassed a Blog Contest, an Infomercial Contest, Research Poster Contest (student and professional categories), Oral Research Paper Presentation Contest (student and professional categories), and a 3-minute Pitch to Policymakers Contest.

These competitions highlighted the different health-related research projects by students and professionals across Northern Mindanao.

A roster of BukSU faculty and students placed in various contests, including Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations, Dr. Carina Joane Barroso (3rd place for the Oral Research Presentation-Professional); Atty. James Violon (1st place for the 3-minute Pitch to Policymakers); Dr. Sales Aribe Jr. (2nd place Oral Research Presentation-Professional); Aubrey Edio (2nd place Research Poster-Professional); Dr. Derren Gaylo (People’s Choice Award, Research Poster-Professional); Vera Mae Bolanio (3rd place Research Poster-Student); and Danise Athena Barroso (2nd place Oral Research Presentation-Student).

Atty. Violon, a representative from BukSU’s College of Law, expressed his initial hesitance to participate in the 3-Minute Pitch to Policymakers competition, given his legal background. Nevertheless, he embraced the opportunity, noting, “I am genuinely elated to have had the opportunity to represent our university. It is a testament to the untapped potential within the College of Law. This experience has taught me the immense power of collaborative efforts, proving that success can be achieved even in areas where it may seem elusive.”

Meanwhile, Aubrey Edio, an instructor from BukSU’s College of Nursing, secured second place in the Research Poster Contest (Professional Category).

“Securing the second place in the Research Poster Contest was a surprise, but it reaffirms the notion that ‘you will never know until you try.’ I’m thankful to the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Innovations, and the College of Nursing for letting me join the 6th Regional Health Research Conference, which has greatly contributed to my learning and realizations about research,” she said.

During the conference’s closing ceremony on October 12, Mountain View College President Dr. Remwil Tornalejo emphasized the impact of health on development.

“Generally, ill health brings poverty, and as a vicious cycle, poor people cannot afford adequate healthcare,” Tornalejo said.

“Towards the goal of providing adequate healthcare to all, necessitates scientific research. Valid research is needed towards more objective and effective decision-making to address specific health needs,” he added.

NorMinCoHRD announced that Xavier University is set to host the 7th Regional Health Research Conference in 2024, promising another year of ground-breaking research and collaborative achievements in the field of health sciences.
