BukSU submits three academic and two grad programs for AACCUP Accreditation Prelim Survey Visit  

MALAYBALAY CITY/OP-IPS – In preparation for the AACCUP formal survey visit, Bukidnon State University has submitted two undergraduate programs on September 12-14, 2022 and three academic programs on September 14-16, 2022 during the AACCUP Accreditation Preliminary Survey Visit.

The Master of Arts in English Language and Master of Arts in Sociology were the two graduate programs to be accredited which took place on September 12-14, 2022.

Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela, Vice-President for Academic Affairs said that there’s a need for the two master’s program to cope with the standards that has already been achieved by the undergraduate programs.

With this, she hoped that the two programs will continually grow and improve their quality with the preliminary visit.

Mr. Dante S. Victoria Jr, Vice-President for Administration, Planning, and Development, also said that almost all of the university programs have a Certificate of Program Compliance from the Commission on Higher Education, emphasizing that “excellence in instruction, research, extension, and production are promoted in BukSU.”

During the exit conference last September 14, 2022, Dr. Elle Christine D. Melendez, accreditor for Master of Arts in Sociology, said that the attitude of receptiveness ad responsiveness of the taskforce towards accreditation shows that the university has engrained among its workforce the engagement to various process owners in achieving the quality assurance target.

“Your efforts to reach these targets and to perform your assigned tasks amid your other assignments speak of your heart for service a resilient, generous, and gracious heart for BukSU,” she added.

She also cited some minor improvements for the two programs which includes working with the process owners in identifying relevant documents. She said they may also seek assistance in uploading these documents so that they are positioned appropriately.

“Additionally, a summary matrix in relevant indicators may also improve the presentation of evidences and promote ease in reviewing documents. Further, you may want to seek the consent of the concerned faculty before uploading some of these support documents,” she added.

The preliminary survey visit was conducted in order to determine the readiness of the program for a formal survey visit.

On September 14-16, 2022, BukSU also conducted an AACCUP Level III and IV Phase 2 online accreditation survey visit for its three academic programs namely: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Financial Management, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Dr. Jaime P. Pulumbarit, overall AACCUP coordinator and Vice-President for Administration/Finance in Bulacan State University said he truly appreciate the desire of every program, college, or university in submitting themselves, to the standards of quality assurance.

“We all know that accreditation ensures that the services provided by BukSU are up to high standards which will eventually boost your clientele’s confidence with your good reputation and help you become consistent with your system and processes,” he said.

Dr. Pulumbarit also cited some general impressions for the three academic programs during the exit conference last September 16, 2022.

For the Bachelor of Arts in Nursing, he said the students were able to practice their OR/DR simulation using their state-of-the art college laboratory. Aside from that, the university College of Nursing is the first in region 10 to be allowed by CHED to conduct face-to-face classes.

He also cited their consistent high marks and multiple 100% passing rates during Philippine Nursing Licensure Examinations.

For the Bachelor of Business Administration major in Financial Management, he cited the junior extensionist club which was founded by the college to serve as a student Tran civic organization involve in the program and other college extension activities.

He also commended their strong partnerships with a number of their own educational institutions abroad, and the number of graduates who have held key positions in both government and private companies and institutions. 

For the Bachelor of Arts in Information Technology, Dr. Pulumbarit said that one of the best practices the university is implementing is the utilization of the student’s capstone project by publishing in a recognized Scopus index journal.

He also mentioned that the department is in the process of determining how to measure the program results of the BSIT program. However, he said, the policies regarding how to measure the accomplishments of the POS and PEOs are not yet in place.

“This policy may be incorporated as part of the continuous quality improvement of the BSIT program and its ambition to become one of the IT certification testing centers,” he added.

Overall, the AACCUP accreditor was impressed by BukSU task force for their cooperation and responsiveness to their queries and needs.

In behalf of Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez, University President, the Vice-President for Research, Extension, and Innovations, Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, delivered his Words of Commitment and assured that Bukidnon State University shall continuously and devotedly submit to accreditation.

“BukSU shall remain innovative to continually submit for quality assurance evaluation to ensure that as an academic institution, this is a quality assurance and commitment to quality enhancement that would make BukSU a premier institution in the heart of Mindanao,” she said.

In BukSU, the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) is important in order to make the attainment of quality in education an integral part of the higher education systems more particularly among chartered state colleges and universities in the Philippines.
