AUSTRADE-trained BukSU faculty give echo webinar on teaching, assessment strategies

Mr. Chaseur Leo Vann O. Ontolan of the Language and Letters Department is one of the particpant of the ASEAN Teachers training last year shared his learnings to BukSU faculty.

MALAYBALAY CITY (OP-IPS) Faculty members who attended an ASEAN-wide training last year spoke in a university-wide echo webinar on “Teaching Assessment and Strategies for Blended/ Hybrid Classrooms” on March 3, 2021.

Mr. Chaseur Leo Vann O. Ontolan of the Language and Letters Department and Dr. Iris April L. Ramirez of the Bachelor of Secondary Education Science Program attended the international online training from October 28 to November 4, 2020 entitled ASEAN Teachers #UpskillwithAU Training organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and AUSTRADE (Australian Trade and Investment Commission).

Through the webinar, Mr. Ontolan and Dr. Ramirez implemented their re-entry plan, designed to echo their   insights and experiences in an online training.

Forty-eight teachers and technology integrators representing the different colleges of BukSU Main and satellite campuses attended the webinar held on March 3, 1:30-4:30 pm via Zoom.

The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) sponsored the webinar. Dr. Rizza R. Consad, CITL Director and International Affairs Unit (IAU) Director Ms Laurelee B. Cabacungan spoke in the preliminaries of the webinar to welcome participants and explain its rationale.

The two faculty attended the series of training-webinars for teachers within the ASEAN countries with speakers from high-ranking Australian University educators from Monash University, The University of Sydney, Queensland University and The University of Western Australia, in collaboration with Phoenix University.   

The series focused on Using Online STEM Pedagogies to Enhance Teaching; Creative Ways of Successful Teaching and Assessments Using Digital Tools in STEM Lessons; Active English Learning Strategies for Blended/ Hybrid Classrooms; and Digital Tools and Strategies for Enhancing Learning Through English as Medium of Instruction (EMI).

BukSU’s engagement was part of CHED’s (Higher Education) Bayanihan Program where institutions with Centers of Excellence and Centers of Development in Teacher Education were invited to nominate two representatives to join as participants.

Dr. Ramirez represented the College of Education and Mr. Ontolan the Bachelor of Arts in English under the College of Arts and Sciences. Both programs are currently Centers of Development of BukSU. (Ms. Rowena F. Egargo/International Affairs Unit publication contributor)
