BukSU submits 8 programs for AACCUP Level II Accreditation

MALAYBALAY CITY (OP-IPS) In its continuing quest for quality assurance, Bukidnon State University submitted eight academic programs for Level II Accreditation with the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) in an Online Accreditation Survey Visit on April 18 to 22, 2022.

Four of the eight programs submitted are undergraduate programs; Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Bachelor of Arts in Social Science, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, and Bachelor of Physical Education. The rest are graduate programs; Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education Major in Mathematics, Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration, Doctor of Public Administration, and Master of Management Major in Business Management.

Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez, University President, emphasized that even in the face of the pandemic, BukSU has remained innovative. He said this is to ensure the university continues to provide relevant education that is responsive to the local and global communities.

“With the challenges that beset higher education institutions, quality assurance has become even more complex, which entails greater accountability and flexibility,” Dr. Hazel Jean Abejuela, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, said during the opening program on April 18, 2022.

Dr. Abejuela noted that all the 21 accreditable undergraduate programs and nine graduate programs have been accredited. About 23% of BukSU’s accredited programs obtained Level IV accredited status and 30% with Level III accredited status.

She cited, among others, that BukSU has obtained its 9001:2015 ISO recertification, received CHED’s Awards for Centers of Development in teacher education and English language teaching, and has contributed a major part in the region’s transition to Flexible Learning System.

AACCUP is one of the precursors through which BukSU was able to sustain quality and excellent services to its stakeholders, Dr. Abejuela said.

The AACCUP assessed 10 areas of an institution offering an academic program: Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives; Faculty; Curriculum and Instruction; Support to Students; Research; Extension and Community Involvement; Library; Physical Plant and Facilities; Laboratories; and Administration.

AACCUP officials introduced the members of the accreditation survey team during the opening program.

Dr. Riceli C. Mendoza, Professor VI of University of Southern Mindanao and member of the AACCUP Board of Trustees, coordinator of Cluster I, presented the eight-person accrediting team for the undergraduate programs.

Dr. Analyn M. Gamit, Associate Professor V and Director of Quality Assurance Office of Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, who is also the coordinator for Cluster II, presented her eight-person accrediting team to evaluate the graduate programs.

The eight programs are from the College of Education, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, and College of Administration. The deans of the four colleges introduced the local task forces involved in the accreditation.

Dr. Abejuela also commended the QA champions from the four colleges for demonstrating agility, resilience, and collaboration in preparation for the Level II Accreditation and for choosing to transform this pandemic to productivity despite the constraints.

“May our risen Lord grant us accreditation blessings for the next five days,” she added. (Diana Rose B. Lagoy/OP-IPS)
