BukSU IT instructors receive international certification in network, cybersecurity

MALAYBALAY CITY (OP-IPS) Two members of the Information Technology Department faculty of Bukidnon State University obtained their respective Information Technology (IT) Specialist Certification recently from an international certification provider.

Mr. John Dale S. Belderol and Mr. Ronel A. Bongga have obtained their IT Specialist Certification for Cybersecurity and Network Security, respectively from Certiport on March 26, 2022.

“I relied mostly on existing knowledge from a course I finished as part of my ongoing MIT Studies, as well as some readings I come across every now and then,” Mr. Belderol said when asked about his reparation.

Mr. Bongga, on the other hand, kept a schedule and read domain topics for at least two hours per day during the entire review period.

According to Certiport, a Pearson VUE business, it is the leading provider of certification exam development, delivery, and program management services.  Certiport exams are delivered through an expansive network worldwide.

The BukSU IT Department has also strategically segmented the core courses to the different faculty members to provide the best possible review experience of takers by taking expert reviews and creating review materials for the use of those who wanted to take it.

“I wanted to grow in my professional credibility in the IT subject matter. Earning related IT certifications helps me to boost the level of confidence in demonstrating the related skill domain in my teaching,” Mr. Bongga said.

Since the certification exam was done online, the results were shown right away. The acceptable passing score should be 700 over 1000.

“I felt more surprised than relieved, actually. I came to the exam with the intention of simply checking out how it’s conducted and how difficult the questions would be, so that I would be better prepared if I took it next time,” Mr. Belderol told OP-IPS.

With the broad aspects of Information Technology, the BukSU IT department is looking at strategically putting the faculty and its curriculum to different specializations by capitalizing in both the core skillsets and specialization skillsets.

Other specializations include Computational Thinking Study Skills, Networking, Software Development, Artificial Intelligence, Java, HTML and CCS, JavaScript, Device Configuration, Phyton, and Database Systems.

“For now, I’m thinking of taking other specializations aside from Cybersecurity when the opportunity comes. It helps us improve our curriculum in the drive to give our students quality education,” Mr. Belderol said.

In a statement, the BukSU IT department said it continues its legacy to lead innovation and advancement in IT studies. Its major investment on faculty competency, technology adaptation, industry experience, and advanced research is geared to prepare the students of the future. (Mr. Raul Lecaros/BSIT)
