DSWD-X, BukSU Kick Off 2026 Literacy Program in 5 Bukidnon LGUs

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office X (DSWD-10), in partnership with Bukidnon State University (BukSU) and five Bukidnon LGUs, deployed student Tutors and Youth Development Workers (TYDWs) for the 2026 Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program in Kitaotao, San Fernando, Impasugong, Lantapan, and Libona.

The month-long literacy program aims to improve learners’ reading skills while promoting youth participation and community engagement. Before deployment, the TYDWs underwent orientations and training facilitated by DSWD personnel and BukSU faculty mentors.

Dr. Jiemalyn B. Paulican emphasized professionalism and commitment among the deployed students, while BukSU mentors will conduct regular monitoring throughout the program.

In preparation for their deployment to partner local government units (LGUs), the DSWD X, in coordination with BukSU, conducted the Pre-Deployment Activity for student YDWs under the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP) on May 7, 2026, at the BukSU Auditorium.

The activity served as a final orientation for the participating student Tutors and YDWs, focusing on field protocols, responsibilities, and expected conduct during program implementation. Ms. Shaira B. Endaya, PDO II/TBTP Bukidnon Team Leader, facilitated the session on the dos and don’ts in community engagement, emphasizing professionalism, accountability, and respectful interaction with partner communities and learners.
