A total of 100 mangrove seedlings were planted by students and faculty from the National Service Training Program (NSTP) of Bukidnon State University (BukSU) Alubijid Campus in Tubajon, Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental, on April 23, 2025.
The activity, which focused on environmental awareness and civic engagement, provided students with a hands-on opportunity to contribute to local conservation efforts.
Prior to the planting, participants attended an orientation where they learned about the proper procedures for planting and preparing the seedlings.
Dr. Maristel Llaging, the NSTP component head, explained that the goal of the initiative was to promote long-term environmental sustainability and resilience.
“Through this collective effort will result in bigger changes in the future. We can help the community become more resilient and environmentally aware,” said Llaging.
Students who participated in the activity shared that the event offered them valuable insight into their role in protecting the environment. Many expressed that they now better understood the impact their actions can have on both the local community and the broader ecosystem.
This tree planting effort is part of BukSU NSTP’s ongoing initiatives aimed at fostering environmental stewardship and civic-mindedness among students, while also supporting local sustainability projects. (Angelica Aldovino, BukSU Alubijid faculty member)
