Bukidnon State University has started using the Program Evaluation and Review Technique-Critical Path Method (PERT-CPM) as a project management tool to organize timelines and address coordination issues in its infrastructure program.
Representatives from various university units involved in infrastructure planning and implementation convened at the Finance Building Conference Room on April 24, 2025, for a working session on the PERT-CPM approach.
The session was attended by members of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) for Infrastructure, its technical working group and secretariat, the Project Management Unit (PMU), the Planning and Development Unit, and the Project Monitoring and Inspection Team (PMIT).
Rosanna S. Generato, chairperson of the BAC for Infrastructure, said the method allows teams to identify the critical path in project implementation.
“PERT-CPM helps us break down tasks, find the critical path, and manage slippages and bottlenecks in our infrastructure projects,” said Generato.
Planning Officer III and PMIT member Celil May R. Ylagan led the technical discussion. She presented the key concepts of the PERT-CPM method and introduced the university’s updated project scheduling template. The tool is designed to provide a visual layout of activities, interdependencies, and estimated durations.
The walkthrough was followed by an open forum, where participants discussed recurring challenges in project execution. Attendees also reviewed how the updated template could support closer coordination between planning, procurement, and monitoring teams.
The PERT-CPM method is expected to be applied in upcoming infrastructure activities, allowing the university to track progress across multiple units and manage potential slippages more systematically. (Rosanna S. Generato, CAO-Admin)
