The Bukidnon State University Economics Department in collaboration with the Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana College of Business and Economics (Indonesia) has officially launched a hybrid learning mobility program called the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) on March 25, 2025.

COIL Program is a hybrid online collaborative learning between the students and faculty of the two Economics Departments of BukSU and UKSW aimed to upgrade the educational experience of the students and faculty across countries by leveraging the use of an advanced online platform for learning.

Spearheaded by the SMART BukSU and UKSW Administrations in partnership with its International Affairs Units, the COIL program aims to exchange knowledge in some macroeconomics/econometrics topics, joint student-faculty exchange, explore academic publications, and conduct international conferences, workshops, and seminars.

SMART BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol challenged the participants from both institutions to engage meaningfully in the activity as the region faces a volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous, disruptive/dynamic landscape. She further stressed that as BukSU reached the frontier of excellence, the need to be globally engaged and locally relevant is the impetus to achieve development objectives.

Furthermore, she calls upon the participants of COIL to develop critical thinking skills, enhance their adaptability, and become equipped to collaboratively tackle pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges that promote sustainable development.

Prof. Yafet Yosafet Rissy, PhD, the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Alumni Affairs of UKSW, acknowledged the importance of the COIL program. According to Dr. Rissy, COIL is cost-effective and efficient, particularly with the advanced technology that facilitates seamless collaboration across borders.

He also emphasized that the program is vital for discussing the cultural, social, and political landscapes of the countries involved.

“By allowing students and faculty to participate in real-time, cross-cultural dialogue, the COIL provides a unique opportunity for learners to understand diverse perspectives which promotes awareness and mutual respect,” Prof. Rissy said.

In BukSU, Dr. Cleopas Bette R. Jacutin, who is an expert in public administration and economics education will serve as the pioneering professor to discuss important macroeconomic topics such as inflation and unemployment.

Dr. Yulius Pratomo, a PhD Economics holder, will share his knowledge in national income accounting and macroeconomic equilibrium.

The BukSU-UKSW COIL program starts from 25 March 2025 and will run until April 15, 2025, featuring lectures and activities of students and faculty. (EnP. Adriane John P. Luncido, Msc./Faculty CAS-Economics Department)
