In a time when virtual interactions have become the norm, Bukidnon State University (BukSU) College of Technologies successfully navigated the digital space to hold a significant Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting. The meeting, held via Google Meet, was more than just a formality; it marked an important moment for fostering stronger collaboration between parents and the school community, all while ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of student activities and finances.
From the outset, the event had a clear and inclusive tone. The COT-SBO Technical Committee began with the National Anthem, Prayer, and the BukSU Hymn. Host Ms.Bianca Nicolette Garcia then extended her warm greetings to parents, students, and esteemed guests, signaling the start of an engaging session, followed by the opening remarks of the College of Technologies Dean, Dr. Marilou O. Espina’s.
Dr.Espina’s opening remarks were heartfelt and poignant. She emphasized the importance of extracuricular activities in shaping well-rounded students and urged parents to actively support their children’s involvement. She reminded everyone present of the powerful bond between the BukSU COT and its students’ parents and guardians, a message that resonated throughout the meeting.
The opening remarks was followed by the Vice President of Culture Arts, Sports and Student Services, Dr.Lincoln V. Tan. He highlighted the importance of learning for each students, as well as assuring everyone present that the University recognizes and supports the unique learning styles and talents of every student. Dr.Tan’s words underscored the school’s commitment to providing an environment where every child’s educational needs are met.
As the meeting progressed, SBO Treasurer, Mr.Jeff Ivan Mayor provided a detailed breakdown of the collection policy, which cover essential expenses for the Intramural event for both sports and socio-cultural activities. With transparency at the forefront, Mr.Mayor explained that the total intramural sports and socio cultural fee would be ₱357.90, covering the cost for both components.
The Collection breakdown was followed by the Open Forum, expertly moderated by the SBO Governor, Mr.Jhon Lester Ybañez, became a platform for parents to voice their concerns and ask critical questions. The discussion focused heavily on the collection policy, payment deadlines, and the specifics of various fees. Mr.Ybañez provided detailed explanations of the university collection policy’s process, emphasizing strict adherence to protocols that ensure to proper handling of funds. His clear assurance that payments would be cash-only, due to the challenges of tracking online payments, was a necessary step in securing the trust of parents and guardians.
One of the significant moments came when parents, including Dr.Espina, sought clarification on the overall costs associated with student participation in various activities. Mr. Ybañez provided clarity, explaining that the payment applied to all College of Technology students, not juts freshmen. He also address concerns regarding the consent forms and medical certificate, assuring everyone that the SBO Officers will provide letter of request to the University Clinic for spots participants.
In the final stages of the meeting, Mr. Louie Jay Labastida, the SBO Adviser, facilitated the election of PTA officers and engaged parents in a conversation about creating a group chat for better communication. The creation of parents’ directory was also suggested, further emphasizing the importance of fostering an open, supportive environment for all involved.
As the meeting come to close, Mr.Louie Labastida once again, closed the meeting with heartfelt gratitude to the attendees, he also urged everyone to open their cameras for a final photo, symbolizing the unity and collaboration that had been the true essence of the event This virtual PTA Meeting was a step forward in the ongoing effort to strengthen the school-parents partnership. With open communication, transparency in financial matters, and a shared commitment to student success, BukSU College of Technologies has set a positive precedent for future gatherings.
