The Food Technology (FT) students of Bukidnon State University (BukSU) top in the various competitions during the Northern Mindanao Philippine Association of Food Technologists (PAFT) Summit 2024, on November 14-15, 2024 at Cagayan de Oro City.
At the Linkehan Product Development Showcase, two teams of third-year BukSU students won second place with their innovative food products. The first product, Pineapple-Mango Pastillas, was created by Regie Buisa, Rala Nivra Alar, Daniel Yare, Skharlate Naelga, Marinel Tahuson, and Merie Loid Comitan. The second product, Malunggay-Kamote-Pinya Tart, was developed by John Lloyd Villaroya, Aigie Gin Pardo, April Rose Suaring, John Lynwil Cervas, and Gee Ellen Flores.
In the Tagisan ng Talino competition, two teams of BukSU second- and third-year students secured the top two spots. The first-place team comprised Princess Niña Singson, Lara Mae Domingo, Wendell Uba, Rala Nivra Alar, and Jazzy Dyle Gelacio. The second-place team included Gerlie Joy Albaran, Cherry Rose Salingguhay, Kyle Rhoy Paquino, Yvan Klent Declaro, and Cristine Khey Pontijon.
This year’s summit was attended by students and faculty members from Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, Central Mindanao University (CMU), University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), and Bukidnon State University (BukSU).
BukSU’s team were guided by faculty mentors Kierby Depalan and Dr. Madelaine Dumandan.

The two-day summit also featured career talks on academia and industry insights, as well as discussions on the secrets of professional food technologists. Attendees engaged in interactive sessions, including ice breakers, games, an open forum, and a Q&A session.
