Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations, led the BukSU delegation, joined by Dr. Marichu Montecillo, the Director for the University Gender Resource Center.

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) represented Northern Mindanao at the International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security, held in Manila from October 28-30.

The conference, themed “Forging Collaboration and Convergence for Advancing Women, Peace, and Security,” gathered global and national stakeholders to advance the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda and assess its implementation ahead of the 25th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325).

Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations, led the BukSU delegation, joined by Dr. Marichu Montecillo, the Director for the University Gender Resource Center.

The conference featured a Ministerial/High-Level Segment on the first day, where government leaders and WPS advocates reviewed the progress of UNSCR 1325, assessing the achievements and remaining challenges in implementing gender-centered approaches to peace and security.

The following days featured thematic discussions that explored best practices and the evolving landscape of the WPS agenda.

BukSU’s participation underscored the university’s commitment to championing gender equality and inclusivity in peacebuilding efforts, resonating with the university’s initiatives to empower women and foster security within local communities and across the academic sector. (BukSU-Information Unit)
