With the new academic semester approaching, Bukidnon State University is ready to welcome students from across the country to its main campus in Malaybalay City. For first-year students, finding a suitable place to stay that feels like home and supports their studies can be a challenge.
While there are many accommodation options around the city, such as boarding houses, pads, and apartments, BukSU offers three on-campus dormitories that are worth considering. These dormitories provide a convenient and supportive living environment right within the university grounds.
“Dormitory life at Bukidnon State University is designed to create a supportive and engaging community for students. Living on campus fosters camaraderie as students build friendships and collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds,” said Dormitory In-Charge Ms. Christie M. Esperon.
In addition to the supportive living environment, students residing in BukSU’s dormitories can benefit from the activities and initiatives organized by the Association of Dormitory Residence (ADORE). ADORE is a student organization dedicated to enhancing dormitory life by creating a vibrant and inclusive dormitory community and offering opportunities for leadership, personal growth, and peer support.
The dormitories offer a secure environment with 24/7 security and supervision, including a curfew at 10:00 p.m. to ensure safety and order. They also provide a home-away-from-home atmosphere, with comfortable living spaces and amenities that make daily life convenient and enjoyable. This setup helps students focus on their studies while participating in various social and academic activities.
For male students, there are two dormitories on campus: Mahogany Residence Hall and Kilala Residence Hall. Both offer a monthly rate of only P775, which is significantly cheaper than other accommodations outside the campus.
Since 2022, Jeffrey Dimacutan from Misamis Oriental has been a resident of Kilala Residence Hall while pursuing his BS in Electronics Technology at BukSU. “Birthday celebrations with my dormmates and Zumba sessions during Wellness Wednesday are my most memorable experiences at Kilala. These activities foster a balance between academic life and personal well-being for us students,” he said.
For female students, the Rubia Residence Hall, located in BukSU Valley, accommodates 150 residents. It features a spacious lounge area, an indoor garden, and a backyard with a scenic view of the Sawaga River. The facility also includes a cafeteria with budget-friendly meals.
Development Communication student Shybelle Adriane Encabo said that staying at Rubia Residence Hall saves her and her family the daily commuting expenses from Managok, Malaybalay City. “The dorm has security measures, providing a safer environment than off-campus housing options. Staying at the dorm allows me to concentrate on my academics, and it offers free access to the internet,” she said.
To ensure safety, regular drills are conducted to prepare all residents for emergencies. These drills include fire evacuation procedures, earthquake preparedness, and other safety protocols.
First-year students will be given priority for dormitory accommodations. However, upper-class students may also be accommodated based on bed availability.
In addition to student dormitories, BukSU also offers hostel and transient rooms for visitors. These facilities, located on the campus, are available for visiting parents, relatives, and other guests. The rate for these rooms is P300 per day per person, providing a convenient and affordable option for those who need to stay on campus temporarily. (BukSU-Information Unit)
