BukSU Partners with SIC for Research

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Innovations (OVPREI) through the Extension Unit (EU) facilitated a qualitative research seminar-workshop for faculty researchers of San Isidro College (SIC) on April 11, 2024, at the 4th Floor Conference Room, Research and Extension Building.

“We recognize the indispensable value of qualitative research. It opens a window to the complexities of human experience, providing depth, context, and understanding that numbers alone cannot convey,” VPREI Carina Joan Barroso said.

RU Director Ms. Joanne Recente delivered the message on behalf of SMART BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol.

“I encourage all faculty, researchers, and extension practitioners to actively participate in this seminar writeshop by submitting papers for review, serving as reviewers, or attending the sessions to contribute to the discussions,” she said.

The invited faculty researchers from the private institution were the identified partners to create impact studies on the extension projects led by BukSU. The seminar-workshop is a university extension program titled as Strengthening Partnerships for Advancing Research Knowledge (SPARK). The session served as its first leg where BukSU provided inputs on writing qualitative research.

Former BukSU Quality Assurance Director Dr. Elle Christine Melendez shared her expertise on the strategies in crafting a qualitative study mainly on writing for Introduction, identifying Methods and research designs, and ways to interpret results and how to discuss them.

Following the presentation was a reverse pitching of extension projects shared by extension project leaders, and participants were grouped for an assignment of specific projects to write for.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be chosen as a participant to attend this lecture on qualitative research. This is very informative as it provides a deeper understanding of the process. It gave insightful information about the more general aspects of collecting and evaluating qualitative data, highlighting the significance of context and subjective interpretation. This seminar has improved my comprehension of qualitative research methods and gives me useful tools and techniques to conduct qualitative research in a variety of fields. It also helped me approach data collection and analysis with a deeper appreciation for context and interpretation,” said Joven dela Pena, one of the participants from SIC.

The next session, SPARK session 2, will happen on April 29, 2024.
