Farmers’ Daughter And BukSU Cum Laude Graduate Ranks Top 8 In Teacher’s Licensure Exam

Since her childhood, Vivian Perocho has been dreaming of becoming a teacher someday. Growing up in the hinterland of Barangay Linabo in Quezon, Bukidnon, she witnessed the important role teachers played in shaping her life and molding the youth within her community.

“Observing how my daycare, elementary, and high school teachers imparted their knowledge to students fueled my desire to follow in their footsteps. I aim to make a positive impact on the lives of young individuals, guiding them toward realizing their own dreams,” said Perocho.

However, chasing her dream posed challenges for Perocho to begin with. Born to farmer parents, she witnessed the sacrifices her family made to sustain her education at Bukidnon State University.

“When you set your sights on achieving something, you have to work hard to attain it. It is more meaningful and worth celebrating if you know you invested hard work in achieving your dream,” – Vivian Perocho

“My parents could only afford to provide me with a weekly allowance of P500. Budgeting became a challenge as I had to cover my boarding house rental, food, and other daily expenses from that amount. Fortunately, being a consistent Dean’s Lister allowed me to receive a stipend from the university,” Perocho shared.

“Under the scorching sun or heavy rains, my parents tirelessly toiled the fields to ensure that they would be able to send me to school. I strive to be successful with my studies because this is not only for me but also for my family.”

Through determination, dedication, and inspiration from her family, Perocho completed her Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) degree with honors, graduating cum laude in 2022.

She also received support from BukSU to enroll in a review center as part of her preparations for the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET). She also engaged herself with video drills on YouTube and committed herself to answering at least 100 to 150 mock questions each day.

When Perocho took the LET in September 2023, she was confident enough to pass the exam. However, she did not expect to attain a 93% grade, securing her a spot in the Top 8 for the elementary level.

“Before, my aspiration of becoming a teacher was only in my dream. Now, that dream is within reach of becoming a reality. When you set your sights on achieving something, you have to work hard to attain it. It is more meaningful and worth celebrating if you know you invested hard work in achieving your dream,” she said.

Perocho stands among the 23,782 successful candidates out of 50,593 examinees for the recent LET elementary level, contributing to BukSU’s commendable passing rate of 98.21%. Additionally, the university achieved a passing rate of 70.10% for the secondary level.

Premier teaching continues as BuKSU provides topnotch LET Board Prep

Perocho attributes her success to the teachings of BukSU’s College of Education.

BukSU not only provided knowledge for LET preparation but also molded her into a resilient and adept educator, especially during the pandemic. The faculty’s adaptability and commitment to excellence equipped Perocho and her peers with the skills needed for today’s dynamic educational landscape.

“The impact of BukSU-BECEd’s faculty extends beyond individual success, shaping a cohort of resilient and adept educators prepared for the demands of the future,” Perocho said.

“BukSU’s College of Education consistently delivers high-quality education and enriching experiences to its students. The faculty members have been incredibly supportive and instrumental in my academic journey. They have not only equipped me with the necessary skills to become an effective early childhood educator and mentor in early development but have also played an important role in shaping young minds to become responsible citizens in our country,” added Perocho.

Perocho has joined the esteemed company of the previous 2022 LET topnotchers, Ms. Gelain S. Litanon (Top 4) and Ms. Florence S. Baylosis (Top 8) and 2023 LET top 9 Yves Marc Dave T. Modequillo. Their achievements are a testament to BukSU’s commitment to producing outstanding educators.

For future LET takers, Perocho advises: “Surround yourself with support, believe in yourself, stay focused, avoid distractions, make reviewing a habit, and seek guidance through prayers.”

Perocho’s journey exemplifies dedication, hard work, and a commitment to excellence, serving as inspiration for aspiring educators. Her story underscores the importance of a strong educational foundation and unwavering determination, providing insights for those embarking on their LET journey.
