The Bukidnon State University’s (BukSU) IT Department has continued its commitment to community engagement by spearheading a Community Extension Program aimed at enhancing the technological skills of educators. Titled “Maximizing ICT Tools to the DepEd Teachers of Malaybalay National High School and Dalwangan ES,” this initiative was participated by 28 high school teachers from Malaybalay National High School to enrich their knowledge in various digital tools and applications for classroom use.
The program, conceptualized by the IT Department, was designed to empower teachers with the latest tools and skills in ICT. This program covered the topics in Canva, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Animation, and Photoshop.
“It is very useful because personally, I’m not too tech-savvy and I was thought how to properly use canva”, a participant said as she reflects on what she has learned.
What made this initiative truly successful was the involvement of students as facilitators. Despite the halt in the program’s completion following its initial plan to be launched in 2020, both the BukSU IT Department and the participating teachers remained resolute in their commitment to completing the program.
After months of continuous training sessions, the program reached its culmination on November 29, 2023. A closing ceremony, held at the BukSU Mini theater marked the successful completion of the program where both BukSU and the Malaybalay City National High School exchanged their certificates of recognition.
The BukSU IT Department’s commitment to community engagement and the advancement of education through innovative initiatives like these serves as an inspiration for BukSU’s commitment for its social responsibility. By empowering educators with the latest technological skills, the ripple effects of this program are poised to create a lasting legacy in the field of instructional material improvement in their respective schools and beyond.
