MALAYBALAY CITY – In line with the INSYGHT program, Bukidnon State University launched 10 research studies integrating Dr. Joy M. Mirasol’s Smart BukSU framework as part of the future plans for the university.
“Based on our initial plan, from six, we have evolved it into 10 research studies incorporating the Smart BukSU framework. In the different studies, we will look into our future for the next 5, 10, 20 years depending on the horizon identified by the researchers,” Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations said this in the Highlight segment of BukSU Updates program aired in DXBU 104.5 FM on August 9, 2023.
She cited that BukSU INSYGHT was a continuation of the 2022 program. To integrate research in Futures’ Thinking, they have conducted a writeshop at Dahilayan Forest Park Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon on August 2 to 4, 2023. During the writeshop, three projects were conceptualized: Academic, RDE, and Governance.
In the academe, she said, they have integrated the faculty and students. For the RDE, it was divided into Research, extension, and innovations. For governance, it included ecosystem of governance, foresight planning, and quality assurance.
The word INSYGHT is an acronym for Innovation System for Growth and Holistic Transformation in Higher Education Institution. It is a multidimensional analysis of the research and innovation system for growth and holistic transformation in the higher education institution.
Dr. Barroso said that part of its objective was to create strategies and initiatives towards attaining a vision for BukSU in the upcoming years.
BukSU INSYGHT was also under the Futures’ Thinking. The VPREI cited that the future was uncertain so they need to look at possibilities how they can prepare themselves for the it.
She added that they have used Futures’ Thinking Tools (FTT) to assist them in defining the future and in looking into what they want for the university.
“We are uncertain of our future…we need to look at possibilities how we can prepare ourselves for the upcoming future that’s why we are using Futures Thinking. It is a process that helps us reflect and analyze on different changes that would happen in our university be it in the next 5, 10 years, and so on,” she said.
Dr. Barroso said BukSU has two batches of Futurists. First was the Core Group trained last August 2022 by the ASEAN Institute of Management (AIM). She said the Strategic Roadmap was the product of the first training.
The second batch was the Middle Managers and their training would be this coming November 2023. The Phil Futures Thinking Society and Aptissimi Development Innovations Inc. (ADDI) will be the one to train them.
The VPREI said the next steps would include data gathering, consultative meetings, and interviews for their future plan. “We will have another writeshop on October to polish the papers and we will be inviting experts to critic our output. By November, we plan to disseminate it,” she said. (Information Unit)
