MALAYBALAY CITY – The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program passed the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) Level 3 Re-accreditation status with no areas for revisitation. Accreditation validity is from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2026.
Dr. Carina Joanne V. Barroso, Dean of the College of Nursing, said in an interview that this re-accreditation is very important as it connotes quality and it shows that the Nursing program is at par with the standards set by the different regulatory bodies such as the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), and International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
She said that the result was “a prize of all the hard work.”
“It also serves as a feedback mechanism for our program as to what improvements need to be done. It is also an affirmation that we are doing good and we are doing our job in the college,” she added.
BukSU conducted an AACCUP Level III and IV Phase 2 online accreditation survey visit and submitted three academic programs last September 12-16, 2022; Bachelor of Science in Nursing is one of the submitted programs.
During the exit conference, the accreditors have commended the video presentation and state-of-the-art facilities of the College of Nursing.
Dr. Barroso mentioned that when the result came out, they were very happy to find out that they got 100% in their instruction.
“It means we are in the right path in ensuring that we can provide quality nursing education,” she said.
As to their AACCUP journey, she said that they have a lengthy preparation starting from the groupings assigned on the different areas. They also had “Kumustahan sessions” to inform and guide the Nursing faculty as to what are the things that needs to be accomplished monthly.
“If you want to have a good AACCUP feedback, start with good preparation and such preparation should be executed regularly according to what is set by the team,” she said.
She added that monitoring them and asking for progress were also important.
“We work together and no one is left behind,” she said.
For the next steps of the College of Nursing, Dr. Barroso mentioned that they are preparing to offer Master of Arts in Nursing and they are set to open next year.
“We have settled activities to ensure that we would be able to present and defend to the Board of Regents that we are capable of opening the master’s program,” she said.
The College of Nursing was grateful to the BukSU Administration headed by Dr. Joy M. Mirasol (Current President) and Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez (previous President) for their unending support given to the college. They also extended their gratitude to Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Mr. Dante S. Victoria Jr., Vice President for Administration and Finance, Ms. Psyche T. Malabo, Quality Assurance Director, and the College AACCUP task force in accomplishing tasks, videos and like with quality and precision. (Diana Rose B. Lagoy/Information Unit)
