Bukidnon State University received the Bronze Award at the Philippine National Research Awards 2025 conferred by Global Health Focus University Excellence during recognition ceremonies held on April 28, 2026.
The award was given following the university’s production of 53 Scopus-indexed publications in 2025, according to the institution’s Research and Development Unit (RDU).
“The award underscores BukSU’s commitment to advancing scholarly inquiry, fostering innovation, and contributing meaningful knowledge across disciplines,” said Ms. Joan M. Recente, Director of RDU.
Dr. Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III, chief scientific officer of GHF University Excellence, identified BukSU among institutions contributing to the international research sector through publication output and participation in academic discussions.
According to the RDU, the recognition resulted from the work of researchers, faculty members, and academic officials involved in the university’s research initiatives.
“The achievement is a product of the collective dedication of BukSU’s researchers, faculty members, and academic leaders who have consistently pursued high-quality research aligned with national and global development priorities. Through sustained efforts in building research capability, strengthening institutional support systems, and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, BukSU has created an environment where innovation thrives and knowledge is actively translated into solutions for communities,” said Recente.
Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations, said the award also sets expectations for future research initiatives at the university.
“This award is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our researchers and the strong research ecosystem we continue to build at BukSU. Producing 53 Scopus-indexed publications is not merely about numbers—it reflects the relevance, quality, and impact of the work we do. As we move forward, we are committed to further strengthening our research agenda, fostering innovation, and ensuring that our outputs create meaningful contributions to society, especially in addressing the needs of our communities in Bukidnon and beyond,” Barroso said.
BukSU said it will continue pursuing research and innovation initiatives tied to science, technology, and development-oriented studies while maintaining programs intended for community engagement and academic research participation. (Jessabell Q. Cabada/ Head, RDU Management Staff)
