BukSU Joins PH Universities With 100-Scopus Annual Output

Bukidnon State University has entered a group of Philippine universities that have produced at least 100 Scopus documents annually under the Global Health Focus (GHF) University Excellence qualification tracker, while President Joy M. Mirasol shares the No. 9 spot in GHF’s list of the Philippines’ Top 10 SUC Presidents who are Scopus producers and researchers.

The GHF data place BukSU at No. 14 among 21 Philippine qualifiers and candidates for the Times Higher Education World University Ranking.

BukSU’s annual Scopus output increased across the five-year period. The university recorded 5 documents in 2022, 12 in 2023, 19 in 2024 and 53 in 2025 before reaching more than 100 in 2026. An August 11 GHF update lists the 2026 figure at 102 and the overall total at 218.

BukSU ranks second in Region 10

BukSU ranks second among the Region 10 institutions listed in the August 16 GHF research output update.

Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology ranks first with 298 Scopus documents in 2026 and 3,006 overall. BukSU follows with 105 in 2026 and 221 overall, while Central Mindanao University ranks third with 74 in 2026 and 632 overall.

“Ranking is a tool for institutional improvement. It allows us to measure how well we are performing, identify where we need to improve, and demonstrate the value and impact of our University to our students, communities, and partners,” said Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, BukSU’s Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations.

“More than the rank itself, what matters is how we use it to become a better university,” Barroso added.

Mirasol shares No. 9 spot among SUC presidents

BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol shares the No. 9 position in GHF’s list of the Philippines’ Top 10 SUC Presidents who are Scopus producers and researchers.

The GHF table lists Mirasol with 7 Scopus documents and 12 citations, with 2026 as the latest publication year. The same No. 9 position includes the presidents of Central Luzon State University and Davao Oriental State University.

The Region 10 update also lists three presidents from the region in the Top 10. The president of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines is at No. 8, Mirasol is at No. 9 and the president of Central Mindanao University is at No. 10.

GHF is a research and academic organization associated with research publication, Scopus output and university research assessments. GHF University Excellence conducts activities related to scientific publishing, research publication and university rankings. The organization has also conducted activities covering research publication, journal selection, manuscript preparation, peer review, Scopus indexing and university-ranking indicators.
