A Bukidnon State University graduate topped the March 2026 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers, leading a group of BukSU examinees who entered the national Top 10 rankings in both elementary and secondary categories.

Princess Willah M. Yamahon of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) program ranked first in the elementary level with a 95% rating.

Sophia Acquin A. Parista of BECEd and Elkan T. Salumintao of Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) placed fifth with ratings of 93.80%, while Shekinah Philline J. Sayson of BEEd ranked eighth with 93.20%.

In the secondary category, Ian Fherd S. Tamong of the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) program placed eighth with a 93.60% rating.

BukSU posted a 97.14% passing rate among first-time takers in the elementary level after 34 out of 35 examinees passed the licensure examination.

For the secondary level, the university recorded 180 passers out of 204 first-time takers for an 88.24% passing rate.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reported that 18,376 elementary teachers out of 32,796 examinees, or 56.03%, passed the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers. In the secondary level, 45,001 out of 61,561 examinees, or 73.10%, passed the examination.

“It brings me great pride and happiness to see our BukSUan graduates perform exceptionally well in the recent Licensure Examination for Teachers. Your success is the result of your hard work, determination, and sacrifices, and it reflects the excellence and dedication we continue to uphold at Bukidnon State University. You have brought honor not only to yourselves and your families, but also to the entire BukSU community. Mirasol further emphasized the call to service as they bring pride to BukSU,” said University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol.

“To all BukSUan LET passers, congratulations on reaching this milestone. As you begin your journey as professional teachers, may you continue to inspire, lead with integrity, and make a difference in the lives of your future learners. Today, we celebrate not only the success of our topnotchers and passers, but also the shared victory of the entire BukSU community. We are truly proud of all of you! To God be all the glory!” Mirasol added.

College of Education expresses pride in examinees

College of Education dean Dr. Ann Sheila C. Del Rosario emphasized how COE has stayed true to its commitment to provide quality education.

“On behalf of the College of Education, we congratulate our students and thank them for the pride they have brought to our college and to Bukidnon State University as a whole. I would also like to extend our thanks to the administration for always supporting my requests for our students. To our department heads, the LET coordinator, and the entire faculty: thank you for doing your best and living up to the standards of excellence expected of us. Being a Center of Development carries a heavy responsibility, and I am grateful for how you all consistently rise to that challenge,” said Del Rosario.

BukSU LET Coordinator, Dr. Juliet L. Pacursa, remarked on the preparation of the College, and how collaboration with parents and review centers made the success to producing examination passers.

“The College of Education implements a preparation strategy for the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) starting from the freshman year. Exams are patterned after the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) standards, having the in-house review program, established in the 1980s, and adaptive learning, which navigated us to shift during the pandemic using online platforms and has now transitioned to a HyFlex (Hybrid-Flexible) model to accommodate scheduling and venue needs,” said Pacursa.

“The success of the takers is attributed to the active participation of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) that provides both academic and emotional support to the students,” she added.

Academic head of the four levels also shared how they nurture students to become a quality graduate.

“Our success in producing topnotchers is rooted in our structured curriculum, specifically the ISED 1, 2, and 3 courses. These provide third- and fourth-year students with a comprehensive review of General Education, Professional Education, and Specialization subjects. This foundation is further strengthened by our college-wide LET Enhancement Review, led by Dr. Pacursa,” said Dr. Hannah T. Castillon, academic head of BECEd.

“Our assessments are a key best practice; midterms and finals are patterned after LET-based items and aligned with the PRC Table of Specifications (TOS). By exposing students to this format starting in their first year, we build their test-taking stamina and familiarity with the actual board exam,” said Ms. Ritchelee T. Alugar, immediate past academic head of BECEd.

“To add to that, another vital mechanism is the consistent implementation of summative testing from the first year through to graduation. Students are kept informed of their scores to monitor their own performance,” Regel L. Maagad, academic program head of Physical Education.

“In every course, we ensure that students receive more than just theory; we prioritize practical applications. This hands-on approach gives the lessons more meaning and helps students retain principles more effectively. By the time they reach their review classes, these concepts are already part of their ‘stock knowledge,’ leading to high performance in mock exams,” Dr. Ronald A. Francisco, BEEd academic program head. (BukSU – Information Unit)
