Amid the pressure of academic deadlines and examinations during Finals Week, students of Bukidnon State University (BukSU) were given a moment to breathe, reflect, and reconnect with their faith through “Voices of Faith,” a worship event organized by the Student Leadership and Development Unit (SLeDevU).
Held on December 3 at the BukSU Gymnasium, the gathering aimed to foster spiritual enrichment, unity, and interfaith dialogue within the university community.
Far more than a musical showcase, “Voices of Faith” offered students a refuge from the demands of campus life. It reminded them that academic success is better pursued with spiritual strength and emotional support.
The event featured Boholano social media personality and worship leader Jethro Alaban, who led the praise celebration with his band. For Alaban, the event marked a personal milestone and his first time leading a full worship team outside Bohol as part of his journey toward faith-centered content creation.
“Just last year, God revealed something to me that I now find so much satisfaction in,” Alaban shared. “I never lost my essence as an influencer, as I still sing for people and upload on social media. But the Lord shifted my content from secular to worship songs for His glory. And that is where I truly experienced satisfaction.”
Students filled the gymnasium, many moving to the front to join the worship. Alaban said he did not expect such an uplifting environment from the BukSU crowd.
“It was a great experience! I didn’t expect the kind of atmosphere there,” he said. “The students came right in front, excited to worship. It was a well-organized and truly amazing event.”
As academic pressures peak, many BukSU students rely on their faith for guidance, perseverance, and peace of mind. The shared worship experience encouraged students to turn to prayer and spiritual grounding as a sustainable way to manage stress and anxiety.
“Seek the Lord every day in whatever we do. We cannot do anything without the Lord,” Alaban said when asked for his advice to the students.
With programs like “Voices of Faith,” BukSU continues to strengthen its mission of holistic student development. The university supports not only academic growth but also the emotional and spiritual well-being of every Scholar of the Highlands.
“The event was not just rendering of a song or performance. It was a worship and many were inspired. Some [university] officials even cried. I was happy because many were blessed. This is not just for mental health, but spiritual health as well for our students,” said Dr. Lorenzo Dinalayan III, Director of SLeDevU, reflecting on the event’s purpose and its heartfelt impact.
As students face the demands of Finals Week, many now carry renewed courage and calmness, uplifted by a night of worship, fellowship, and faith. (BukSU-Information Unit)
