Bukidnon State University leaders strengthened their expertise in responsible artificial intelligence after completing a global training program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania through the Higher Education Upskilling and Study for Advancement of Staff and Faculty (HUSAY) program of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, Vice President for Research, Extension and Innovations, and Atty. Ophelia Pilar E. Rubio-Zamora, Dean of the College of Law, finished the Strategies for Accountable AI program, a course designed to prepare leaders for the legal, ethical, and operational issues brought by rapid AI adoption.
The program examined accuracy, transparency, legal liability, bias, data protection, intellectual property risks, workforce impacts, misinformation, and market concentration. It also reviewed global AI legislation and the compliance measures organizations need to meet. Participants engaged in self-paced modules and live sessions that trained them to identify the limitations of AI systems, anticipate ethical controversies, evaluate accountability mechanisms, understand regulatory approaches across countries, and choose practices that support responsible AI use.
Barroso and Rubio-Zamora joined other BukSU officials who recently completed CHED HUSAY programs at the Wharton School. University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol finished a course on Digital Leadership. Vice President for Administration and Finance Mr. Dante S. Victoria Jr. and Chief Administrative Officer for Administrative Services Ms. Rosanna S. Generato completed the Leadership and Management Certificate Program. Chief Administrative Officer for Finance Ms. Katherine Lou P. Bandas and Information Unit Head Mr. Rodrigo E. Bolivar completed the Strategic Marketing for Competitive Advantage course.
These achievements reinforce BukSU’s commitment to building a leadership team equipped to navigate technological change, strengthen governance systems, and support the university’s long-term development. (Joanne Vivien B. Necosia/ Director, PMS)
