BukSU, SIC further research and extension ties with an impact study focus

Led by BukSU’s Extension Services and Community Engagement Unit (ESCEU), and the Research and Development Unit (R&D Unit) under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations (OVPREI), the seminar-writeshop will focus on 11 completed extension projects evaluating the effectiveness, sustainability, and benefits within the community.

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) and San Isidro College (SIC) underwent a Seminar-Writeshop focused on impact studies for completed extension projects on May 19-20, 2025, at the 4th Floor, Research Building at BukSU, under “Strengthening Partnerships for Advancing Research Knowledge (SPARK)” extension program.

SPARK commenced in April 2024 with a memorandum of agreement between the two institutions,  to transform extension projects into research endeavors.

Key activities of the writeshop, facilitated by the resource persons, Dr. Manuel L. Caingcoy and Dr. Derren Gaylo from BukSU, include exploring research methodologies, conducting interviews and focused group discussions, and organizing and analyzing data outputs.

The program is designed to equip participants to measure the outcomes of extension projects, assess their relevance to the beneficiaries, and document lessons learned that can be applied to future projects.

“An impact study is essential for identifying practices, pinpointing areas for improvement, and enhancing the reach and significance of future initiatives. The insights generated from these studies will provide guidance for policymakers, institutions, and stakeholders in making decisions,” Dr. Jiemalyn B. Paulican, ESCEU Director, said.

The workshop discussed three research methodology approaches: quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods.

“These approaches provide participants with the competencies to conduct impact assessments, integrate research findings, and bolster the credibility of their projects,” Dr. Paulican added. (BukSU-Information Unit)
