The Research and Development Unit (RDU) of Bukidnon State University (BukSU), in collaboration with Global Health Focus (GHF) University Excellence, conducted the Seminar-Workshop on Advancing Research Competence through Scientific Writing and Methodological Rigor on May 15, 2025, at Loizas Pavilion, Casisang, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
A total of 100 participants, including faculty researchers and non-teaching personnel, from BukSU’s main and satellite campuses, made research an endeavor for academic advancement, institutional learning, community relevance, and sustainable development.
In her opening message, University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol described research as the foundation of breakthrough, innovation, and sustainability. She encouraged the BukSU research community to embrace RIGOR—Report findings clearly, Inform the community, Grow knowledge, Organize ideas effectively, and Reach broader audiences—as a standard and a shared value system.
“This seminar is a step in strengthening our capacity to generate knowledge that matters and to communicate science that transforms,” Dr. Mirasol said, emphasizing that quality research must be inclusive and impactful.
The program featured two simultaneous, specialized sessions:
Parallel Session 1: Scientific Writing for Journal Publication, facilitated by Dr. Don Eliseo III Lucero-Prisno, a public health expert, focused on helping researchers with completed studies prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Prisno shared approaches to academic writing, publication readiness, and scholarly impact.
Parallel Session 2: Seminar-Writeshop on Advanced Research Methods, led by Mr. Jerico B. Ogaya of GHF University Excellence, provided participants from the university’s satellite campuses and the Hospitality Management Program with tools for research design, methodology refinement, and data analysis.
Non-teaching personnel also joined in the activity, where two studies—one on waste generation management and another on energy consumption patterns within the university—were highlighted during the plenary for their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations, praised the initiative as a stride toward a university-wide research culture. “We are not only building researchers—we are building an empowered community of thinkers and change agents,” she noted. Ms. Joan M. Recente, RDU Director, emphasized the unit’s vision to support every BukSU employee with the interest and potential to engage in research.
“As BukSU continues to nurture research ecosystems, this seminar-workshop reinforces its identity as a knowledge-generating institution committed to sustainability, innovation, and community engagement—where everyone, regardless of role, has a part in advancing science and development,” Ms. Recente shared.
