Bukidnon State University (BukSU) conducted a comprehensive workshop to refine its 2026 project proposals for the General Appropriations Act (GAA), on November 29, 2024, at the BukSU Hotel Laboratory.
The activity brought together university leaders to ensure the alignment of proposed projects with institutional goals and national priorities.
The workshop, spearheaded by the Planning and Development Unit, aimed to finalize the design and layout of infrastructure projects, critically evaluate the cost-benefit analyses, and incorporate social value considerations into the proposals.
It also sought to prioritize 32 proposed projects and develop the site plan for the Quemado-Neary Campus, a newly acquired property envisioned for future academic infrastructure and community facilities.
The program opened with remarks from Mr. Dante S. Victoria, Jr., Vice President for Administration and Finance, who emphasized the importance of strategic planning in advancing the university’s development agenda.
This was followed by an address from University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, who emphasized the crucial task of identifying “which initiatives will address the most pressing needs, deliver the greatest benefits, and align with our shared vision for inclusive and sustainable development.”
Dr. Mirasol also shared that “appropriations are the lifeblood of our initiatives. They challenge us to be mindful stewards of public funds, balancing ambition with accountability. Each project we put forward should carry the promise of progress—not just for BukSU but for the communities we touch.”
Key discussions during the workshop included addressing challenges encountered during the preparation and validation of project proposals under the Public Investment Program (PIP) for 2025.
Participants also reviewed issues related to the implementation of ongoing infrastructure projects, highlighting the need for efficient resource allocation and compliance with regulatory standards.
The presentation of the 2026 GAA project proposals served as a significant milestone in the workshop. Facilitators and technical writers engaged in a thorough critique of the submissions, focusing on enhancing the clarity and feasibility of project designs. These discussions underscored the integration of cost-effectiveness and social impact in the proposed initiatives, ensuring that BukSU’s projects contribute meaningfully to the community.
In the afternoon, attention shifted to the prioritization of infrastructure and information and communications technology (ICT) projects.
The site development plan for the Quemado-Neary Campus, a vital component of BukSU’s long-term strategic development, was also finalized. This campus, donated by the Quemado family in honor of former Peace Corps volunteer John Thomas Neary, represents a key element of the university’s growth plans.
The activity demonstrated BukSU’s dedication to excellence in project planning and implementation. By integrating critical feedback and aligning its priorities with national development goals, the university continues to position itself as a leading institution committed to academic and community advancement.
