The Automotive Technology Department of Bukidnon State University’s College of Technologies conducted a virtual stakeholders’ consultative meetings on September 25, 2024, to review and update its curriculum, ensuring a balanced integration of theoretical knowledge and hands-on learning for students.

Stakeholders, including faculty, parents, students, alumni, and industry partners, were gathered to provide valuable feedback on strengths and areas for improvement.

“As I review your curriculum, it shows promise for adaptability in the industry, particularly in the international market,” said Ms. Grace Miyashiro, Marketing Officer at the Philippine Research & Investment Institute, an official partner of Kenjimin Training Center.

“Here in Japan, Preventive Maintenance Service (PMS) is highly in demand, and there is a significant shortage of workforce in this area. Moreover, the subject of hybrid and electric vehicles is particularly relevant, as companies like Honda, Toyota, and Subaru are shifting towards vehicle electrification,” she added.

Additionally, Miyashiro suggested increasing the number of hours dedicated to Nihongo language instruction.  In the present curriculum, the basic requirement for Nihongo is 150 hours, which is divided between Nihongo 1 and 2.

Miyashiro proposed extending the study of Nihongo into the 3rd-year second semester and the 4th-year first semester to keep the language skills fresh for graduates. She added that Japanese employers highly value Filipino workers who can speak Japanese, as it facilitates smoother communication and fosters stronger connections. (Mr. Nicolas S.
