The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs successfully conducted the second session of ACE-IT: Advancing Curriculum Excellence through Internationalization and Transformative OBE on September 4, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at BukSU Hotel.

This activity, which had its first session in May 2024, aims to enhance the academic programs by integrating elements of Internationalization of the Curriculum (IoC) and Transformative Outcome-based Education (TOBE).

As part of BukSU’s commitment to excellence, this curriculum enhancement initiative ensures the alignment of the program outcomes with international competencies and the demands of the 21st century workplaces.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela, Vice President for Academic Affairs, set a positive tone for the session. She underscored the significant role of the academic leaders in shaping the future of Smart BukSU, urging them to make the curricular programs distinct and globally competitive.

She also emphasized that the revised curriculum should include courses anchored on the vision and institutional outcomes of the University.

The highlight of the activity is the presentation of proposed revised curriculum by the deans, department heads, and program chairs. The revisions are based on the virtual benchmarking conducted during the ACE IT 1 and the input of the stakeholders during the consultative meetings organized by each department.

Dr. Cecille Marie T. Improgo, the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) Director, formally closed the productive one-day curriculum enhancement with encouraging words.

In her closing remarks, she encouraged the participants not to be daunted by the plans for the Internationalization of the Curriculum. She said, “Take inspirations in the accomplishments of our alumni who have earned sterling achievements in their respective fields.”

She also expressed confidence that the proposed revised curriculum would prepare students to contribute significantly to the global arena.

The proposed revised prospectus will undergo further refinement based on the feedback the internal and external stakeholders. This iterative process ensures that the new curriculum, scheduled for implementation in Academic Year 2025 – 2026, meets the highest standards.

The next step will be the presentation to the Executive Committee, Joint Academic and Administrative Councils, and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), followed by the approval of the Board of Regents. (Dr. Katherine B. Akut, Department Head, OVPAA Management Staff)
