Bukidnon State University held its 90th Commencement Exercises for 1,492 students from undergraduate and graduate programs across its seven colleges on June 10 and June 18–21, 2024.
Among the graduates, 70 earned Latin honors, including 15 Magna Cum Laude and 55 Cum Laude recipients.
The class of 2024 is honored as the “centennial batch” for graduating during BukSU’s 100th anniversary.
“Today, as we celebrate our achievements and look towards the future, let us remember that our dreams do not end here. They are but the beginning of a new journey, a new adventure, and a new opportunity to make a mark in the world,” said College of Law graduate Ashtin Francesca D. Bolivia.
With the theme “A Century of Excellence: Nurturing the Ethical and Innovative Leaders of Tomorrow through Smart Education,” BukSU alumni and notable professionals from various fields served as commencement speakers.
Dr. Beverly B. Bicar, former Dean of the College of Education (COE) and the college’s commencement speaker, commended the 220 COE graduates for choosing to become teachers.
“[The teaching profession is] a career reputed not only as the noblest of all professions but also regarded as having the most impact on people and to society,” she said.
BukSU’s satellite campuses will not be holding graduation ceremonies for this year and the next due to a temporary suspension of admissions in 2020 and 2021. This suspension was necessary as the university complied with the Certificate of Program Compliance from the Commission on Higher Education for its 15 campuses.
Diploma, TOR upon graduation
For the second consecutive year, graduates received their diplomas and Transcripts of Records (TOR) during the graduation ceremonies.
The distribution of diplomas and TORs at graduation was first initiated by University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol when she assumed office last year.
According to the Office of the Registrar, the immediate distribution of academic records is advantageous to graduates when they apply for jobs.
“Graduates can promptly submit their academic records to prospective employers, which enhances their chances of securing employment opportunities,” said Mr. Roy E. Tagarao, Administrative Officer III of the Office of the Registrar. (BukSU-Information Unit)
