Bukidnon State University (BukSU) received various disaster risk reduction (DRR) equipment through a project funded by the Commission on Higher Education Discovery-Applied Research and Extension for Trans/Inter-disciplinary Opportunities (CHED-DARETO) during a turnover ceremony at the Conference Hall of the Research and Extension Building on May 29, 2024.
The project focused on outlining future directions and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience. This initiative aims to strengthen the university’s capacity to manage and mitigate disaster risks, benefiting both the academic community and the wider region.
The turned-over items include laptops, a printer, and flowmeters, which are devices used to measure water volume.
BukSU began the project with CHED-DARETO in 2017, and it was completed in 2021.
“The endeavor was a vital research on disaster preparedness and mitigation. This is a testament to the exceptional caliber of our research community and their commitment to addressing critical issues faced by disasters,” said BukSU President, Dr. Joy M. Mirasol.
According to Mr. Rhondell M. Paraiso, Head of the BukSU DRRM Unit, the research conducted by his team, along with Ms. Marie Angelie C. Abendaño, has contributed to BukSU’s advocacy for practical disaster risk reduction measures. Paraiso emphasized the benefits for students, faculty, and staff and noted that their work has been recognized at scientific conferences.
Furthermore, Dr. Rogelio T. Galera, Jr., the director-in-charge of CHED, shared important projects eligible for funding under the Higher Education Development Fund.
“This was primarily created to strengthen SUCs in the Philippines and to finance the development of academic programs as one of its objectives,” Galera said.
“We sincerely thank CHED for recognizing BukSU’s potential and providing this valuable support. Your investment in our research endeavors will empower us to make a real difference in the lives of Filipinos. We can explore potential research projects and collaborate to secure additional CHED grants, further propelling BukSU as a credible partner for research and development initiatives,” Mirasol said.
