More than 100 students from the province of Bukidnon were recipients of financial support from both the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the office of Bukidnon’s Second Congressional District.

The disbursement took place at Bukidnon State University (BukSU) on January 25, 2024, where each beneficiary of the Student Monetary Assistance for Recovery and Transition grant received a check amounting to P25,000.

According to CHED Region 10 Director Freddie Bernal, despite the government’s provision of free education for state colleges and universities (SUCs), students still encounter additional expenses essential for sustaining their academic and personal needs.
“Hindi lang tuition and other fees ang pagtuonan ng pansin, kundi maraming gastusin bilang estudyante. With this program, makakatulong ng malaki ito sa inyo, matutulongan ninyo ang sarili ninyo, at eventually, matutulongan ninyo ang ating bayan,” said Bernal.
“Despite the availability of free education at SUCs, students still incur expenses for necessities such as food, boarding house rentals, school supplies, and internet data load. These are things that cannot be addressed solely by free tuition,” said Flores.
Ailyn Lapera, a 3rd-year Development Communication student, is among the recipients. She said the grant significantly aids in easing the financial burden on her farmer parents and assisting with her daily expenses while studying at BukSU.
“With this grant, I no longer have to depend solely on my parents for my daily school expenses and allowance,” said Lapera.

Out of the 130 grant recipients, 61 are students from BukSU. “We recognize the government’s commitment to investing in higher education. Your support has empowered us to continue our pursuit of academic excellence and alleviated some of the financial burdens our students and their families face,” said BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol. (BukSU-Information Unit)
