PAGDAYU 2023: BukSU awards 67 faculty researchers

MALAYBALAY CITY – Bukidnon State University awarded 67 faculty researchers who gained achievements in research during the Pagdayu: Faculty Research Awards and Recognition 2023 held at the University Mini Theatre on June 16, 2023.

Research is one of the four core functions of the university, and is part of the Smart RDE, Research-Development-Extension, which is one of the six dimensions of the SMART BukSU Vision. Each faculty in BukSU is expected to perform well in instruction, extension, production, and research.

A total of 67 faculty members received the Research Utilization Award. These are the faculty whose researches were already used by partners. The university also awarded the Top 5 faculty with the Research Citation Award, which included, Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, Dr. Lesley C. Lubos, Dr. Sara Louise S. Atulba, Dr. Manuel E. Caingcoy, and Dr. Katherine B. Akut.

Ten researchers also received the Outstanding H-Index Award, which is metrics for research impact. The awardees are researches who obtained three or more H-index. The university also recognized 41 researches with obtained 1 or 2 H-index.

The university also honored the Top 15 faculty with Research Publication award.

In her message, Dr. Mirasol urged the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations and the Research Director to prioritize the budget so that the faculty can engage in more research. She said research is “the lifeblood that courses through the veins of Bukidnon State University, propelling the institution into the realms of knowledge, understanding and innovation.”

She also noted that she will take the lead in encouraging the non-teaching personnel to engage in research. 

Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations, in her welcome remarks, explained the meaning of the binukid word “PAGDAYU” which means “giving appreciation and value” which she emphasized that the PAGDAYU: Faculty Awards and Recognition Ceremony served as a landmark moment in the academic journey to formally recognize and honor the dedication and hard work of the faculty for the last 5 years.

Dr. Lubos expressed his thanks to Dr. Mirasol for the trust and confidence to present the research outputs to the Local Government of Malaybalay. He also mentioned and expressed gratitude to his co-researchers: Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, Dr. Lalevie C. Lubos, Ma. Algerica Cuenco, and Dr. Omar C. Tantoy.

He said that three of their Research outputs were basis in the making of the Sawaga River Conservation Ordinance of 2023. He also encouraged all university researchers and awardees for their passion, dedication, and patience to continue to bear fruit. He added that research collaboration, sharing, and partnerships were the key factors to achieving their common goal and utilizing their various research. (INFORMATION UNIT)
