BukSU LET topnotcher: “Set your goals and always do your best”

MALAYBALAY CITY – Mr. Yves Marc Dave T. Modequillo, Bachelor of Elementary Education graduate, said setting goals and doing your best were the best combo he took in to pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers 2023. He was ranked 9^th with 90.60% rating.

Mr. Modequillo said he became motivated and has set his goal to top the licensure exam to make up for his missed goal of graduating with a Latin honor in the year 2022. As for him, it was his tipping point to do his best during the exam. 

“Sige lang, bahalag wala na cum laude (it’s okay even if I wasn’t able to become a cum laude), ako na lang pasaron ang LET nga mag top ko (I will just pass the LET exam and aim for the top),” he said this during BukSU Updates Episode 18 interview in DXBU 104.5 FM.

Mr. Modequillo cited the changes in the academic setup during the pandemic as the most difficult time of his college journey.  

“During the pandemic, nawad-an kog gana mueskwela tungod sa changes sa setup (I’ve lost my interest in education due to the changes in the setup). Daghan kaayo distractions ug disturbo during sa klase (there were too many distractions and disturbances during the classes),” he added.

He said he regretted not exerting enough effort during that time as it became one of the reasons he wasn’t able to get the Latin honor after receiving a 2.25 grade in one of his subjects.

In spite of this, he was still able to see such drawback as part of life as it made him ‘stronger and wiser.’ He also urged everyone not to forget to have fun along the process.

When he was still young, he said he didn’t have inspiration for his studies, but his parents pushed him to take his education seriously. The topnotcher’s father is a principal and his mother is a school nurse.

When the LET results finally came out, the topnotcher described it as “euphoric.”

As part of his preparations for the exam, he said he listened to audio recordings about certain topics while doing morning runs every day.

The PRC Board released the examination results on May 19, 2023. In BukSU, there were 152 first time takers who passed the exam, attaining a 97.44% rating.

For the Bachelor of Secondary Education, there were 220 first time takers who passed the exam, attaining a 78.85% rating.

With this feat, Immediate Past Dean Dr. Mercidita S. Villamayor of the College of Education expressed her gratitude to the BukSU administration headed by University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, for allowing the teachers to monitor the examinees in every testing center in the cities of Davao and Cagayan de Oro. She likewise extended her thanks to the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) for supporting the LET preparation enhancement program.
