Mindanao faculty receive mentoring in research proposal at BukSU

Mindanao-based researchers developed research proposals with guidance from expert mentors during a two-day workshop at Bukidnon State University (BukSU) on October 19-20, 2026.

Participants of the National Research Council of the Philippines – Mindanao Regional Cluster (NRCP-MRC) Research Proposal Development and Science Communication Academy (ReProSCA) presented their outputs to experts, who then critiqued the work. The program also included plenary lectures and workshops.

BukSU co-hosted the activity with the Department of Science and Technology–National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP). The workshop fell under the DOST-NRCP Capability Advancement through Scientific Capacity Development (CASCaDe) Program.

The mentoring sessions ran in parallel across three disciplines: human sciences, agricultural sciences, and physical and health sciences.

Aside from proposal writing, the workshop aimed to enhance the science communication competencies of Mindanao-based faculty and researchers. It also trained academics and researchers to implement science communication strategies.

BukSU’s Research Center – Center for Educational Analytics spearheaded the initiative.

“Through this partnership, BukSU supports the advancement of a robust research culture and regional innovation ecosystem,” said Derren N. Gaylo, head of the Center for Educational Analytics.

Gaylo said the university seeks to elevate its institutional research output and scientific engagement.

“We hope to capacitate Mindanao-based researchers and provide a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and inter-institutional partnerships among academic and scientific stakeholders in Mindanao,” Gaylo added. (BukSU – Information Unit)
