Secures 1st in Mindanao, 6th Nationally in UI GreenMetric Rankings

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) has advanced its global environmental standing, maintaining 1st place in Mindanao, 6th nationally, 190th in Asia, and 330th worldwide in the latest UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.

The performance reinforces BukSU’s status as the top sustainability-driven higher education institution in Mindanao.

In its 16th edition, the ranking evaluated 1,745 institutions across 105 countries.

The UI GreenMetric invites higher education institutions to move beyond talk, share their proven green practices, and inspire one another toward building more sustainable universities worldwide.

“This year, our guiding theme is “Advancing Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education: Stories from Our Institutions and Communities.” Driven by this focus, we invite broader participation from universities around the globe, uniting higher education in a shared commitment to building the sustainable campuses of tomorrow,” posted on the UI GreenMetric website.

The global assessment framework evaluates higher education institutions across seven operational and academic categories: Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste Management, Water Conservation, Transportation, Education, and the new pillar, Governance and Digitalization.

“In 2026, recognizing the rapid shift in the global landscape, we (IU GreenMetric) have significantly expanded our methodology to include Governance and Digitalization. This evolution reflects the critical role of transparent institutional leadership and the power of digital transformation in optimizing resource management.”
