
MALAYBALAY CITY (OP-IPS) Bukidnon State University and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines worked together for the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Unit’s (IPTTU) Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Awareness Webinar on August 19, 2021.
The activity was aimed at capacitating participants on the types of intellectual property rights such as copyright, trademark, industrial design, utility model, and patent. Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez, University President, welcomed speakers and participants in his message.
He stressed on that IPTTU as a baby unit of the university under the supervision of the VPREI. He also urged participants to apply the knowledge they can get from USTP’s intellectual property and technology transfer’s best practices and operation.
Dr. Venessa A. Garcia, director of USTP’s Technology Promotions and Commercialization Office, gave a virtual tour of their office a walk through about their functions, operation, and policies. Engr. Gladdy Christie H. Compasan, one of USTP’s intellectual property experts, did a pre-assessment on the participant’s knowledge on Intellectual Property.
She also discussed Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. From this talk, participants learned about forms of intellectual property rights, the relevance of intellectual property to universities, and copyright, copyright infringement, and trademarks.
Engr. Clark Darwin M. Gozon, another speaker from USTP, gave an overview on industrial design, utility model and patents. Another speaker Ms. Jude Andrea Maternal, shared about her own innovation, commercialization and pitching journey.
Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, BukSU VP for Research, Extension and Innovations, thanked USTP for the series of mentorship and for their affirmation that BukSU is in the right direction.
She urged the 102 female and 55 male participants from the main and satellite campuses to embrace the inputs from the experts.
